Poll finds majority for greenhouse tax on plane tickets - SWI swissinfo.ch
> An overwhelming majority of people in Switzerland appear to be in favour of introducing a tax on plane tickets to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
@joachim I'm sorry for butting in without introduction, but I think it's only fair. In most countries, gasoline is subject to some sort of tax, but kerosine typically isn't.
If taxes were equal, flights would be unaffordable for many. How would people react if their sunny holidays were taken away from them?
@michiel you can live with not going on vacation, you cannot live without heating your home. A tax on plane fuel is less of a problem than a tax on heating fuel.
I think it’s hard for someone to call himself an environmentalist and still flying planes.
@joachim exactly. If our societies were at all serious about reducing carbon emissions, plane trips would be reduced to the bare minimum. Or taxed to the extent that only the super rich could afford them. But there would be riots.
